Gmail vs Microsoft Live

We are making the move to outsourcing our student email. I am trying to decide whether to use gmail or Microsoft Live for hosting student email. Is there a benefit to using one over the other?
We are a 9-12 school and are currently using a very old, very useless web-based email system.
