I use Google groups for my Student learning. I require at least 10 minutes of typing in every class. Students publish their daily Typing scores using the Typing Tutor 5( an old Dos Program Great Software). They will also create and publish their Tech Logs and Typing Graphs from Google Docs to Google Groups. The only poblem you can't embed documents into google groups but it's fine with me. This process helps me be updated about student progress. For rest of class time I try to create tech integrated activities.
