Has anyone had success using Problem Based Learning in Elementary and Middle School classrooms?

I'm a teacher in an Australian Middle School and we have introduced Problem Based Learning modules into our curriculum for Years 6, 7 and 8. I wondered if anyone else has successfully used PBL (not Project Based Learning which is quite different) in their classroom or school.
