I am trying to find ways to increase communication between home and school.

Background:

-I teach Grade 5 (10-11 year olds)

- I am limited as to the technology I have available (our lab still runs IE6 - blogs, wikis do not work properly, other sites won't load at all).

-I also job share, so I share my class with another teacher and work 50% of the time.

What I have done since Feb 2011:

-classroom blog (I post student work, homework, mystery photos, classroom happenings..).  The blog is updated regularly. Students seem to enjoy the blog and comment on each other's work, but parents are not commenting.

-held a parent information night about how the blog works and how to comment

-sent home an information sheet about the blog and its features

-held a dance recital for parents to come and watch students square dance

-my class will host an Authors Tea with parents as guests next week.  Students will share a self selected piece of writing to share.

-field trip, of course, with parents as drivers and chaperons.

So, I am working on trying to having parents view what we are doing in class both in person and virtually through the blog.  I am having more parents come to the school to see student work, than I am visiting the blog.  What else could I try?

Thanks,

Tina
