Homework and Practice

What are your feelings about homework and practice? How do you get parents to understand the importance of homework?

I don't assign much homework anymore. Stopped after about three years of teaching. I do assign homework for a few reasons: 1) It must be done at home, such as interviewing parents or recording wattage of appliances. 2) An assignment for over long breaks. 3) Make-up or late work. 4) Also, long term projects require work outside of class. I found my team would spend the majority of a 45min parent conference talking about homework. What a huge amount of time and energy devoted to such a small part of a student's education!
