Recently I had an IEP meeting and it turned into a counseling session. I felt really bad for the family. Whay do you do when someone comes to a meeting and breaks down. This was clearly a father who wanted help for his son. There was a lot of personal issues he wanted to talk about. After the meeting he talked with the school social worker for about an hour. I never really know how to handle situations when people want to tell you too much of their personal information. I don't know if I should listen, give advice or give'em a hug.

How do you handle these types of situations?
