I'm in need of some EXPERTISE in the area of reinforcing student effort

I am interested in getting some feedback as to how I can more effectively reinforce my kindergarteners effort, and provide recognition. I know that I make it a point to address all of my students, but I feel like I'm in a bit of a rut and may be using the same techniques too much. I would greatly appreciate ANY feedback! I am finding it more challenging each year to motivate 8th grade students, and it is happening earlier in each school year. We are not even close to March, and the apathy is full throttle. Any thoughts for older students as well.
