Does anyone have any ideas on how I can ensure that a foreign student I have in my class isn't having any language difficulties without patronising her. The student in question speaks very good English, always seems to be following and I wouldn't want her to feel singled out by trying too hard to 'include' her. I do use quite word-heavy power point slides, the idea being that if one is learning in a foreign language it's generally easier to read it than follow it being spoken, which can sometimes be a little fast and more colloquial. But during a recent observation it was suggested that I should perhaps be a little more inclusive. Any ideas?

Try monitoring the understanding of the entire class by using a ticket out the door (answering a question or two about what was learned or even having the students write down their questions for you) or a thumbs up/down check.  This way you are ensuring that everyone in the class is following along, not just your speaker of another language.  In addition, you can make your class notes available online so that anyone that is having difficulty following along in class can get extra information if needed.
