I have been assigned to create an Internet class for 11-12th graders.   I am an old dog learning new tricks.  Several questions I need help with.  First, I need to come up with a curriculum.  Does anyone know where I could look to get ideas or a frame work for one.  Second, (ties in with the first) what type of things should be covered in an Internet Class that lasts all year?   Does anyone know of some sites that might get me up to speed on the world to technology this summer?   Thanks for all and any help that you can give me.

I suggest you find out what the student's skill sets are the first week of school. Additionally, find out what they are interested in working on and areas they think they are strong/weak. Let them direct the flow and pace of the class - you can both move faster/slower than you expect this way. This also allows you the time to fill in the holes in their thought processes that they are not aware of... trust me, they are there! :)
Hi,

By internet class, do you mean you will be teaching productive ways to use the Internet? Will you be including digital safety?

I am such a web 2.0 proponent and love to get students to use online tools creatively. You might want to have a web 2.0 projects unit. Try to tie the projects to the curriculum in other disciplines.

I have written several posts about these topics here. http://budurl.com/yyy5 Feel free to contact me about lesson ideas.

Yes. The class was traditionally taught by doing just online search activities the first semester. Then the second semester was spent creating websites using publisher. I feel we need to update this by incorporating technology into activities in which they learn the technology through the need to accomplish or achieve the task. I want to teach (after I learn myself) to use wikis, blogs, podcasts and google docs.

I''m looking for all kinds of ideas on what to teach and how. I am looking for activities to incorporate this skills. I am brand new to technology but very excited about learning. I am looking for anything and everything that can help me including, tutorials

Thanks for any and all input,
