I will be leading a brief introduction to social networking in education workshop later this afternoon and would love some feedback.
What do you feel is the greatest benefit of using a social network like Classroom 2.0?
How has this social network helped you in your profession?
Any suggestions for teachers that are new to social networking?
I use Classroom 2.0 in both workshops for teachers and education technology class that I give for new teachers to introduce social networking and to help build a learning network of peers
Teachers should join a Ning from their profession (such as NCTE Ning for language arts teachers or NMSA Ning for middle school teachers) to engage in interesting discussions with others who share similar teaching interests and to learn about new things happening, contests, summer scholarships, etc.
They should consider LinkedIn as a terrific way to find some consulting or professional development work, or to influence people who create curriculum and policies.
Classroom 2.0 is great for the broad stroke of educators.
For use with students, try ePals, which offers safe social networking in 200 countries, with an academic focus and collaborative, global projects.
I've enjoyed meeting other educators on various social networks and eventually even meeting at conferences. I've learned so much from my interactions with others!
Hope your workshop goes well!
