I was wondering if anyone knows any good apps that can be used for kids with autism in math and language arts?

Considering how heterogeneous autism presents in our kids, what level of math and language arts would you need?  There are tons of apps designed specifically for special needs kids, autism included, as well as apps that are appropriate simply because the iPad itself makes the material more accessible.

Whatever your take on Autism Speaks (I know that can be hotbutton), they have a long list of apps for autism, many to do with different levels of language skill:  http://www.autismspeaks.org/family-services/autism-apps

There is also an app that is an app index of sorts:  http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/autism-apps/id441600681?mt=8

A quick Google search will turn up media articles that often include parent favorites.  Best of luck--the iPad can be very empowering for this group.

I've found this PDF file on 'Constantly Speaking,' a website geared more toward speech therapists, but very handy for teachers also. Just look at the bottom of the webpage and open the link. I really love this list because it contains a variety of apps and what the app icon should look like, as well as cost and a short description. There are multiple apps for language arts (including figurative language), social stories, and life skills. Though math is less represented, the list contains some apps for money and equivalence, which may be applicable to your curriculum. The list is broken down by category for easy access. It's the best comprehensive list yet!
