To honor the memory of Erwin and Esther Zolt, a life-long elementary classroom teacher, IRA announces three grants/award to support teachers or researchers implementing either In2Books (http://in2books.epals.com) or ePals (http://www.epals.com/) and the Common Core State Standards. In2Books targets grades 3-5, and ePals is appropriate for K-12 students.
These awards/grants, sponsored by Nina Zolt and Miles Gilburne, have an annual monetary award of US $2,500 each.
1. IRA Erwin Zolt Curriculum Excellence Award
Goes to a teacher for the exceptional design and execution of a curriculum unit based on either In2Books or an ePals Project and the Common Core State Standards, inspiring students to transform knowledge into creative action.
2. IRA Esther Zolt Academic Research Grant
Goes to a school or university based researcher studying the classroom implementation of either In2Books or an ePals Project and the Common Core State Standards in ways that inspire others to improve teaching and learning in innovative ways.
3. IRA Esther Zolt Teacher Research Grant
Goes to a teacher who plans and completes an action research project with either In2Books or an ePals Project and the Common Core State Standards with exceptional innovation and rigor, leading to the development of curious and independent learners.
