Java applets to quizzes to mobile phones
Colleagues,
I'm not Alvin Toffler, but I believe the media's future should be quite portable, something
like smartphones today, that is, an evolution of current mobile
phones. The content, daily news, chats and cultural activities should
focus on this new vehicle communication, and nothing more natural
than the teaching-learning process also end up migrating to this new
medium.
Once some years ago, I attended a regional meeting called SUCESSU, here in Campo
Grande, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil. It was a meeting about the use of
educational software, and to my surprise, hardly had teachers in
audience! During the discussions, developers complained about the
huge difficulty which had to involve educators in the creative
process of educational software, and they ended up creating the same
programs and feeding them the information they deemed relevant.
I do not intend this to be repeated with mobile devices when they are used in
education. Teachers want to discuss with us the possibilities that
these devices offer educators, and take guidelines that will drive
developers to tailor their systems our needs.
After a few attempts, I found a very interesting way to use them, and
want to share this way with you. Basically is to create quizzes using
the tools available at "Mobile Study", here:

Mobilestudy looks like an interesting way to engage students with their own phones. I like how they offer different ways to access the quizzes and how to deploy them through QR codes for distributing through web, and using java as a platform. Thanks for sharing this, I will be exploring it further and seeing how I can suggest it to the teachers I support.
Currently we use Google Forms as a way to take quick review quizzes and allowing the students to view the data stats from those who have taken it.

I think this has a great potential to enhance the technological learning environment. As a gamer and game researcher mobility is that is already present and is sustaining very well in gaming. I believe that Mobilestudy is just the beginning of apps to come that will let learning and education be able to be more accessible and engaging while not having to be in the confined to a room. I know I have a lot of things that I do on my phone already, outside of learning, I would not mind adding something else to do with it. Thanks for sharing!!!
