The poem We Were Two in original french version:

Andrée Chédid avec son petit-fils Mathieu Chédid
The poet Andrée Chédid with her grandson, the famous singer Mathieu Chédid

NOUS ÉTIONS DEUX

Nous étions deux
L’un de l’autre cousin
Et l’on s’aimait
Plus que la vie

De l’un de l’autre
On partageait les mots
Nous étions deux
Et l’on s’aimait

On s’égayait de nos partages
On s’amusait
Comme s’amusent les clowns
On se battait
Comme se battent les clowns
Pour tout ou rien
On s’embrassait pour trois fois rien

Aux bords du temps
Nous tremblerons de rester
Sans l’un sans l’autre

Nous étions deux
Et l’on s’aimait.
