Hello, I run a mobile class room, and I don't always have internet access, but I do have a network running between each of the computers in the class. (Windows 7 Machines)

I am looking for software/server that I can run to give additional collaboration ability to my students and me that does not require the internet.

Any kind of app suggestions would be good here, but here are a few features I'd like to see.

1) Class Room chat board, so students, and the teacher can chat during class with questions, etc... The idea being, if several people ask the same question, I can readdress the problem to the class as a whole. It also revolves around trying to get students to help each other.

2) Digital Whiteboard. I'll use drawing apps when I'm projecting, but I don't have the ability to let the students interact with it. The idea being if a student is asking or expressing something, they can draw lines, or add text to the board to help emphasize it.

3) Desktop Sharing. By Choice of course, but the idea being that a student, when presenting an issue, can share their desktop, and the class can look at the code, or the error, or whatever, and get a better perspective to the problem. With shared control would be awesome.

4) File/Folder passing. Students would be able to drag files to another student, or group of students, and then those other students would get a message, and be able to open/use this, including files from the teacher to students or vice versa.

5) A history of questions/answers that came up over these digital mediums. I would like to see trends of which questions the kids ask, to help define whether I'm teaching well, and how to change curriculum. It’s not the number of the questions that matter, but the quality. If I get 20 questions during one class, but they are all simply asking for help understanding a concept I just explained, I know I need to address how I teach those concepts in the first place. However, if I get 50 questions in a class, but they are all asking about creative ideas on how they can apply it outside the boxes I taught in, I know things were taught very effectively.

Do you have access to install things on a local server?  If so most CMS's, which are free like Moodle, can be freely installed locally and not ever need to touch the outside world.
  1. Thanks, that's actually quite an interesting product.  Though I like the idea, I didn't find it very intuitive in the demo, nor real-time for active collaboration.  Still, I'm very pleased to see projects like this.

Thanks.

Now that I've outlined what I'm looking for, I've decided I'll just build it.  Despite that, please feel free to post more ideas to this.  If something already exists so I don't have to build it, great.
