Hi everyone,
I am a Engineer reinvented as a Secondary Ed Math teacher. I'm in the process of getting my secondary ed certification here in Pittsburgh, PA
wikis, blogs and nings ! wow so much to learn and implement and so little time

Given that there is just too much information out there, I am presently lost when it comes to training myself about the basics of teaching excellence in math. Therefore I am looking for any math teacher mentors who are willing to share their words of wisdom on how they got where they got...

thanks

Hi Ann,

Welcome to the profession. This is a really exciting time to become a teacher. There is so much changing in the field of education ... so many new possibilities that technology offers us.

I teach high school math at a vocational school in Ohio. I am very fortunate that I get to use a SmartBoard, student response keypads, graphing calculators, Sketchpad, and many more gadgets to help me teach.

My subjects keep changing so I have experience teaching Alg 1, Alg 2, Geometry, Trig, Calc, Adv Functions, Business Math, Senior Math, Int 2, and Int 3.

What technology do you have available to you? What subjects are you teaching?

Hi Ann!
I don't think I would be much of a mentor, but I wouldn't mind just sharing ideas back and forth! I often feel lost, too... sometimes it just helps knowing that others feel the same way. :)

I teach at a middle school, 7th grade math to be specific. I am also in the second phase of our technology training program through my district, and am slowly learning a TON about how to use technology effectively -- I can use it, but am really trying to put it all together to make it effective for my students. I have a document camera/projector and mini-laptop dedicated to my classroom -- if only I could get a wireless signal up on my floor, the things I could do!!!
