I am hoping to collaborate with other instructors that teach Video Production to see what hardware and software people are using at the secondary level and how they manage their labs.
We use the following software titles: Final Cut Pro, Motion, DVD Studio Pro, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, Protools, and Maya. We shoot everything on the Canon XL series. It is a great camera, and pulls an awesome image.
Most of the students use workstations. However, we do have a few laptops loaded with tools that they can check out. The students are allowed to check out everything from the cameras and laptops to a dolly, crane, and steadycam. We do require they go through a training session before being able to do so. We have develop a check out sheet that the students are responsible for filling out before hand. The students do a great job of taking care of the equipment.
Let me know if you have any questions. I would be more than happy to answer them. Go to the following url to learn more about our program: http://ahafilms.ning.com .
Thanks for the reply! You have quite an impressive set up in your classroom. I am lucky to have six seats Final Cut Studio and a site license for CS3 Creative Suite, but you also have After Effects, ProTools and Maya?!? Wow! How many seats of each do you have?
Also, I have to hobble three Canon GL2s as our main cameras for class and events with a couple low end single-chip camcorders. You also have a dolly, crane and steadycam.... I'm envious!
Where is your school located? I'm assuming that it is secondary level, or....? Is your school public or private? Does your school have the budget to support all that gear or have you applied for grants?
Your website is impressive. I look forward to talking with you further.
