Colleagues,
At the start of summer I released a simple download of 438 essay e-comments for teachers to use to improve essay response and save time grading. Here's a sample comment:
Revise: Too Many “to-be” Verbs Consider limiting use of is, am, are, was, were, be, being, been to one per paragraph. To replace “to be verbs” 1. Substitute a more active verb 2. Begin the sentence with another word from the sentence 3. Change one of the words in the sentence into a verb form.
The Essay e-Comments Download inserts these 438 essay e-comments into the Autocorrect function of Microsoft Word® 2003, 2007, or 2010 (Windows XP, Vista, and Win 7 all work fine). The download simply updates the Autocorrects file. Email me at mark@penningtonpublishing.com, if you want directions and the Quick Reference Guide. Put Classroom 2.0 in the subject line, please.
The response has been tremendous. Teachers are loving this new tool. But here's the problem: So many Mac teachers have been pestering me to develop a download. If any Mac users want to tackle this project, please email me. I'm keeping this download and corresponding "helps" as freebies, by the way.
