If a tech savvy K-5 teacher, such as myself, was interested in pursuing network administrator qualifications for adminstering a school network, then what should I be looking at?
Thanks for replying to my vague question. You're right I guess I should have been more specific. I just think that I am at the point in my career when I know a lot of different ways to integrate technology in education with students, I am familiar with and have used lots of web 2.0 tools, smartboards, document cameras, etc, I have used lots of different software, but have yet to explore the other side of the curtain, so to speak. I am interested in learning more about how a network works, what hardware is involved, and what is needed to maintain one. Other than setting up a basic home wireless network (!) I have really very little experience or exposure to that side of computing. So if there are any good books, websites, classes, or whatever that you could recommend to get started with then I would appreciate it. I agree that hands on experience is where you will learn the most, (I am basically self taught on everything I know so far with technology) but there is not really the opportunity for me to do that with our school network because I teach full time. It would have to be an 'in your own time' project.
