Nonlinguistic Representation: Please share thoughts, successes, failures on this strategy

I teach K-8 kids and would like to expand my teaching strategies, I feel I stand in front of the room and lecture too much. My principal wants me to have a "student-centered" classroom instead of a "teacher-centered" classroom. I came across Marzano's Nine teaching strategies and have been learning more about Nonlinguistic Representation. This strategy intersts me b/c it isn't something I am comfortable with. Some of his other strategies, like cooperative learning & questioning I do use in order to help keep a "student-centered" classroom. But, I would like to hear from others who have brought in Marzano's strategy of Nonlinguistic Representation.

What successes have you had using this strategy? What struggles have you faced implementing this strategy? Have you seen improvement in student learning after you incorporated this strategy?

What are your thoughts on Marzano's Nonlinguistic Representation strategy? How do you think it impacts student learning?

I teach kindergarten through 5th grade music, and we use lots of nonlinguistic responses and representations in class. the little kids are using sign language partly because two of their classmates are speaking with sign language at this time. Also because in music class sometimes there is just a lot of noise!! A little non verbal, non linguistic action is a real good thing!!
Some of our brightest students are kinetic learners, so thinking non-linguistically can be a great way to include the students who can really show and do more easily than they can say and tell, or write their learning!
