Working in groups for class assignments can sometimes be difficult, especially for the online learner. Follow these useful tips for participating in group work online to help guide you into a more successful virtual group dynamic!
1. When possible, choose group members with similar schedules. Online students reside in different time zones and can have opposing work schedules.
2. Be proactive and begin setting the groundwork early. As online learners, your time is extremely precious.
Hello,
Try setting consistent schedules for online learners. It is too easy to skip or move a class around but it can create havoc for your learners. Also, try uploading all course texts, assignments, and such beforehand on whatever online medium you are using. Online learners often have different schedules and will work at different paces, so it’s nice to allow them to work ahead if they need to.
I hope this helps,
George
Hi George,
I agree. If all course work is posted and dates, times are set and consistent it will make the learning process for online learners easier because there is "predictability" and routine. If online learners know what is expected before the the course begins, then it really does make for a smooth ride for the students!
If we want to be successful in terms of creating a successful journey into developing teaching and learning with technology, we have to create the right culture in our school. If that culture isn’t right, adding a load of technology to the equation isn’t going to improve outcomes. In fact it’ll most likely make things worse. Change management is so important too – having the right vision, skills, incentives, resources and action plan are key, but if the culture isn’t right; then you’ll still struggle to get the impact you want from your technological investment.
