I am new to the digital video posting phenomenon and I would like to get opinions about posting videos with students to youtube for easy embedding.  What are the safety and/or legal implications of this and what are your policies for students and video?

Brian, teachertube.com is a good site to upload to.
I post my personal and instructional stuff to youtube but I won't post anything with students. Instead I post to Vimeo and password lock it. My students and parents have the password but nobody else does.
Anytime I upload, I also make sure there's a media release form on file!

It's a district requirement for teachers to have signed by parents for their students. No form, no picture--period. It's wise to have our teachers covered for those just-in-cases!
I agree with the policy for the media relaese form (sometimes called a waiver). It is just a smart insurance policy and standard procedure in the professional end of the industry.

For whatever it is worth, I am NOT a big fan of youtube as it is kind of the mediocre end of things. There are many other options and I suggested vimeo.com in my reply to your question in my thread: http://www.classroom20.com/forum/topics/how-to-start-creating-video...
I have posted students in video and student's create and post videos. We have media release forms and naturally exclude students with specified limitations. My students are not to use their names. As with most issues of student internet use, we are likely far too cautious and exaggerate the dangers.
