I have what I think will be a fantastic and engaging idea for our study of Romeo and Juliet, but I am needing some ideas on where to go online to get some of the things we are going to need. I want to take Romeo and Juliet act by act and read through it in class. Then, the next step I am wanting to take is to create a news show for today's world that is similar to Saturday Night Live. I want the kids to write scripts and have 2 anchor people report the news/events kind of like what is done with Weekend Update. They will be putting Shakespeare into their own words and reporting the story from their point of view. I am planning on getting a private teachertube or youtube site to put the videos out there and then inviting parents in to view the student's work. So far, they seem very excited about the possibilities, but I need some help.

First of all, is there an online video editing program that is free? I will need to have the students edit their movie before we publish it. Also, can anyone suggest a direction I can take a few of my students who are very interested in creating RAP music/songs to go along with what we are doing? I am getting every intelligence involved here including drawings of the scenes and the characters in the scenes.

I am really excited about this and want it to be successful! I want it to be something I can use every year as well. Any suggestions you would have for me would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey Teresa-

Windows Live Movie Maker is a great video editing program that is free! You can put video and photos together, use special effects and transitions, add sound to create a terrific, and highly-polished movies.

Here’s a classroom guide for it (ideas and overview) http://www.microsoft.com/education/teachers/guides/windows_movie_ma...

And you can download it here (this link is also on the page above) http://explore.live.com/windows-live-movie-maker?os=other

Let me know if you need any more ideas!

Kelly
