Social media for community development in higher education

I work in student affairs as a residence hall director and have delve into the world of social media as a means to build community among my residents (first years). 

Currently using a Facebook page which is great for program advertising and events. We also have twitter, pinterest, and tumblr for similar functions. Anyone else have tips from their schools?
