Hi all,

What type of structures do you have in your school to support the integration of technology? I am particularly interested in schools doing 1:1 laptops.

I am an "Academic Tech Coordinator" for Middle and High School. I also have an assistant to help me. Elementary School has another Tech Coordinator. As 1:1 will soon reach High School, we are investigating whether it is worth having another Tech Coordinator or whether we should invest more in "catalysts" or multipliers".

I am particularly interested to learn also about the type of strategies that those "catalysts" or multipliers" use to help integrate tech.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Silvana,

Can you please explain what you mean by catalysts and multipliers?

Thanks! :)
Hi Alessandra,

I have seen in other schools that they have teachers in a leadership position to help integrate technology. They are called catalysts or multipliers because they are (as I understand) the first recipients of training and experimenting, then they spread their experience and knowledge to others, sometimes in their own department.

I was asking because I am not really sure how those are working in schools and I would like to learn more about their roles and strategies used.
Silvana
Thanks for clearing that up for me! We've tried a similar approach, but haven't gained much success with it because the catalyst teachers become too busy to train others. As an ITRT, I hold staff development training sessions after school and offer one-one-one meetings to help teachers learn how to use the digital tools and resources our district has available. Most teachers like to schedule one-on-one meetings with me during their planning time because of the convenience factor. You could try your approach and see if it works. Let me know what you decide!
