Does anyone use Study Island? If so, what do you think of it? How has it accelerated student achievement?

I've not heard of this - what is the general concept? *Terri*
Our school uses Study Island...but since it is for second grade and up and I teach first grade I use it as a tool for accelerated learning for my higher kids. They love it! But since I use it in this way I don't see any benefit for student achievement, but it has helped tremendously with acceleration.
My school uses this tool. It is similar to Accelerated Reader and Accelerated Math, a computer tool that can enhance instruction. It does improve scores on the annual state tests. Some students need this tool to focus. It has wonderful reports that parents can understand; it compares a child to the average of the school, the average of the state, etc. This sometimes gets the attention of parents who may thing their child is being pushed too hard by the teacher or maybe not hard enough. It depends on how it is used, but in general, that comes down to the individual teacher and how committed the teacher is to the quality of his/her teaching. Doing other things while students are working instead of monitoring and giving feedback is not good teaching.
Thanks! We've had AR in the past, so I get the general idea. This is helpful! I'd never heard of it. Like you said it's dependent on the teacher. Any tool can be wonderful or awful, depending how it's implemented. I'll check out the site and poke around. *Terri*
thanks for the tip!
