Ten Education Policies That Need To Go

eSchool News recently asked their readers to chime in with their thoughts on which policy/rule needs to be waived or changed. What actions need to take place in order to make some of these suggested changes?

I am a student on the college level working toward a degree in special education and I found that as I read through the top policies that need to go from my experience as a student we need to be allowed to bring our own technology into the learning environment. I have an iPhone and can access course content and pdf's from my phone. I can record lectures to ensure I do not miss notes. I can function and actively participate in the learning environment at a much higher level when I am surrounded by materials I am not only familiar with but also comfortable with. I think the education systems biggest problem is not allowing students to meet their full potential through the use of technology. Technology is not something we should be afraid of! It is something we should be embracing!

I really have to agree with the idea of getting rid of tenure, or preference by experience. Some of the best teachers have been the ones that came in with fresh ideas to get the kids (of today's world) interested in their topics. I've also seen teachers who are notoriously late usually causing their students to sit outside their class rooms, get poor reviews from students, and essentially teach very little, thrive because they had tenure. Then many of us had to watch as a teacher with only 3 years experience was let go, despite the students doing well, learning a lot and enjoying the content, during budget cuts. - - BAH!

Thanks, I guess I needed a good rant against it.
