Greetings,

I am taking an online course in Universal Design For Learning.  This is an educational theory that states that curriculum is broken not the students.  We need to focus on providing the tools for all students and if you have a disability that should not stop you from accessing the importance of the curriculum.

It is heavily based on technology (mainly because the parent company CAST sells some nifty educational technology) but it advocates using assistive technology to help students work.

Is anyone familiar with this theory?  Does anyone work in a school that implements this theory?

Thanks,

Tobey

Hi Tobey,
I am familiar with UDL. I am not well-versed on the topic, but I do agree with the concepts it teaches. At the present time, my school does not utilize this theory. The practice that stuck with me the best is to provide information in a variety of formats. Often times I will create "screen shot" instructions for a newly introduced web sites and provide hard copies for the students who need them. I work with K-4 students so any and all formats I can create I do! What projects are you working on?
