Hey folks,

Our school is piloting the Angel Learning software (now acquired by Blackboard) for the county. I was wondering what experiences others have had with Angel and if there were any quirks to watch out for. I am starting to build a repository and create some sample "courses".  Are there any similar products that perform just as well? All input is appreciated.

Hey Brian,

I do not have any experience with Angel Learning, but do have quite a bit of experience with Blackboard...which may be informative when dealing with Angel (Blackboard seems to absorb their acquired LMSs after enough time). In my opinion, Blackboard is a subpar LMS. There are a host of reasons for this but the big issue is that it boils down to the question: Why am I paying for this?

The open source alternatives (Moodle - a big fan - or Sakai) are just as good if not better. And they cost nothing to use (but some funds and resources to set up).

If you're going to charge money for a proprietary product it needs to be significantly better than alternatives. I'm not sure if Angel or Bb fits that bill.
