Dear All,

I am looking to set up a class site for 6 year olds to use!  The functionality I would like is an online space where pictures and video files can be shared, ideally a blog facility can be created for each child and for access to it to be relatively easy.  Any ideas or tips for such a site, or current examples would be most welcomed - thank you.

I agree, and because of this I have been rigorously testing this for security and privacy with several dummy accounts I have set up. I would never put kids on Facebook as I can't control it and who does what with it. I can control content and who views the content on Ning. I am quite excited about the learning potential yet guarded at the same time. Our head of school will also be invited to be part of this network for accountability.  Thanks for the tips.

Matt,

Many thanks for this.  As i'm doing this as part of an action research project for my masters, the ethics side of it demand parental permission before starting with it.

Hi Dave,

You're welcome and I'm glad that more people in teaching are taking up this issue. It's important.

Cory Doctorow is a great source of info on web privacy (He gave a talk at TED.com on this very subject), the EFF.org are one of the most well-recognised organisations.

There are safer alternatives.

Good luck! :)

I agree with Weebly.  A couple years ago I taught grade one and my colleagues and I used wikispaces.  Were I to do it again I would switch over to weebly.  http://greatgradeones.wikispaces.com/

Is your district using the EDMODO?  I think it can be used as well.  But Weebly for education is an awesome way to do it.  Video posting will be an added cost, it will not be for the free and basic one.
