Our district is struggling with the policies that need to be in place in order to safely use web 2.0 tools. We recognize the need to move forward, but want to make sure we are covered legally. My questions is; Are there districts that have developed policy for web 2.0 tools and would be willing to share what they have done?
Are you talking about an AUP issue? My district is in the process of rewriting our AUP so that we (teachers and students) can use Web 2.0 (ie user generated content sites) in an acceptable manner. For what it's worth, we actually found the Federal Govt's model AUP a helpful model (mostly phrased in the positive and encourages use).
We as a district are basically recognizing that the only reasonable way to monitor use is to keep an eye open in a class that's using computers. Of course we use a filtering system, but we've decided that many Web 2.0 sites have gobs of educative materials.
