What does everyone think of this personal finance and investing club

Hello Everyone,

I built the Charity Student Investment Project in 2008 with three of my students to teach students about personal finance, careers in finance and investing in the stock market. Today we have a handful of students at my school (Grossmont High School), three GHS alumni away at college and one industry professional (personal financial manager with Morgan Stanley) involved. Students manage a real-money investment portfolio of roughly 25 securities (real-money student-managed investment portfolio), meet weekly to discuss investment options, collaborate regularly via the web site and we are looking to expand to include students/teachers from other schools around the country and world.

The Charity Student Investment Project's goals are listed below.

  • Provide financial education to students interested in financial careers, investing and personal finance.
  • Provide student with the opportunity to maintain a “real-money” student-managed investment portfolio.
  • Provide students with a social/professional environment where they can improve their communication and networking skills.
  • Create a network of students, educators and industry professionals dedicated to financial education and passionate about investing.
  • Use a portion of our investment returns to support not-for-profit organizations dedicated to improving education.
  • Help to improve academic and professional opportunities for all members.

What does everyone think about teaching students personal finance and investing? Is this program something a few of your students might be interested in? If you want to know more please reply or e-mail me at tbenrud@guhsd.net

Thanks for your feedback and have a great day!,

Todd
