I've been using haiku for almost a semester now, and I'm trying to get my colleagues to give it a try. Some have, and now I'd like to get my district involved. Any ideas on great ways to make it shine better than it already does by itself?

I will defer to some of the other members of the group on how they 'evangelized' to their fellow teachers. Kathi, Barb, Maddie or Rick, would you have some recommendations for Dan? Anyone else?

I will say, Dan, that we do have some 'Getting Started' documentation for teachers and students that we just developed, but I haven't posted to the Haiku website yet. If you are interested I can update it with information for your district and send it your way.

Hi Dan. Would it help if I sent some information directly to someone in your school administration? I don't want to subvert your own efforts, but I do want your school administrators to know about our free, 60-day trial. We've offered this to other districts who appreciate the try-before-you-buy concept.
So far there has been a tepid response from my department and my webpage committee. I sent out the link to sign up for a free account and play around with the system, but so far only 4 other teachers I know have started creating a site. I think many of the teachers feel like a webpage is too demanding, etc...

Allen: My administration is not ready for any kind of info at this point. I've had some initial talks with our building principal, but he is an interim at this point and so we will have to wait until next school year at the earliest. For now, I'm just trying to proselytize as many converts as I can, that way when they need to make a decision, many teachers will have great experiences.

Lastly, Bryan: did you post the "getting started" info, I haven't found it.

The issue tends to be that in most cases no one is really doing a website for their class or department- or they have always had someone else do it. Once you have some background in all that goes into creating and maintaining a site without something like Haiku, you just don't get how wonderful a tool Haiku is. I would find out who is dealing with your district site and show them, or find out who the other teachers are that have sites and introduce them how Haiku is a lot easier than anything that they could be using.

It's my experience that movement at any level begins at at the grassroots levels. So my suggestion would be to rope in your colleagues who are using it also to lend credence to your voice.

Positive feedback from students can also be a great motivator, after all, they are our raison d'etre so to speak. So I would also recommend getting feedback from students in classes using Haiku so the district can "see" that this really does benefit the end user.

Administration loves numbers ;), so including some statistics on ROI should also help. And last but not least, if feasible, perhaps some of the district members would be willing to sit in on classes using Haiku so they could see it action for themselves?
