I have been using wikis with my 6th grade students during the school year. They have used it to do research, complete written assignments, create songs (as groups) and are currently using it in collaboration with another class in another state to "do" literature circles. Does anyone have other ideas? I want to continue to use it as a class tool, not as a teacher website. Thanks!
What about creating a wiki site that multiple classrooms can add information to? Take a look at Apple's ACOT2 curriculum. They developed curriculum around the "challenge based learning" concept. Think of a topic that is relevant to all sixth grade students and have them create a wiki about the problem and have all classrooms brainstorm possible solutions. Each classroom can post media from their community to bring in a cultural perspective that would be extremely powerful to 6th grade students.
