Windows Xp Xtreme Boot Lag!

Hi,

My computer sometimes takes 5 or more minutes to boot. Its a 7 year old computer, but not too bad specs. Example, when there is a power failure, like my cat walks over the cord and unplugs, circuit breaker trips (which happends a lot!!!), etc, my computer takes forever. Not with the loading of windows xp, its with the signon. Explorer sometimes doesn't even pop up. Any help would be appreciated.

Please help.
