educational issues with art and technology

Would you find it more effective to have materials along with the text to help visually educate students in graphics classes more proficiently?

I would use any kind of visual to reinforce content such as the principles of design. I don't think a textbook is the most effective resource to use in an art classroom. I have found more useful information on the net or across many books as opposed to a 'textbook.'
