I was lucky enough to attend a session run by John Joseph who is based in South Australia. He talked about learner and their perception of themselves as learners. Once you have a negative perception all the re-mediation will not make much difference unless you work with the person to change their perception of themselves as learners.

So we much work support our learners not to developed those negative perceptions.
