I'm doing my graduate research project on interactive notebooks for middle schooler. I'm looking for input on how to make them a success for my students. Plus, does anyone have any data to prove the success on performances/ assessments? Could use your data....
I am a high school chemistry teacher and I am currently using interactive notebooks (IN) in my intro chem classes. We are a tablet school and all students have tablets but this year I am requiring that all notes are taken in a traditional fashion and that they respond on the left side of the IN after each lesson. We have only had one test this year, but student performance has improved dramatically. The first test average improved almost 5 points and the distribution was less broad (less deviation). I always have had students earn a D or below on the forst test -- this year there were 15 A's, 15 B's and 4 C's. I have been very pleased.
Deb,
Thanks for your input. My 7th graders are enjoying how the notebooks keep them organized. I have not had any formal testing yet...but I am looking forward to see how their grades compare to others. If you would let me know what problems (if any) you run into and what successes you have throughout the year.
Thanks,
Denise
