I teach English/Language Arts and Computer Skills to middle school students, and also computer skills to teachers in a 6-12 private school. I've been asked for an easy way to create podcasts. I've played around with Audacity but it's way more complicated than we need. Teachers just want to record and then post to their class website. It's easy finding somebody else's content, but we want our own. Ideas and suggestions are extremely welcome.

Thanks, Fran

try wildvoice, it's a really easy tool.
Thanks! I'll check it out.
Hi Fran, came across this, this morning which I thought would be helpful for you, booklet on creating, publishing etc, does use Audacity, but very clearly explained, looks great http://learninginhand.com/podcasting/Podcasting_Booklet.pdf
Thanks! I can use this with my students - and this is MUCH more complete than anything I've seen about Adacity.

My immediate question is for adults whose comfort level doesn't go a lot farther than point and click. I need something super easy for them. I found one or two programs previously, but they were in Beta and didn't work reliably. Sorry I didn't make that clear before. I can handle the new and challenging. But most of the faculty I assist aren't ready for that yet. They just want to record a podcast and post it to their class page (each class has a simple webpage created for them automatically by Edline.) Students will love Audacity, but for those adults who didn't grow up with this technology, I need simpler tools.

Thanks again!
Thanks for the podcasting booklet! I'm going to post it on my blog for my teachers...I'll give you credit!
Wow! Thank you. I just spent a whole day at a conference on creating podcasts and this was much more help than the techies who presented.
Thank you.

Very helpful. Thanks!

After all your help, I explored several easy-for-non-technical-adults podcasting tools, and shared them with my colleagues at school. Since you may find them helpful, I'm sharing them here: http://franblo.edublogs.org/2008/10/25/feeling-adventurous-podcasti...

Funny story about podcasting---my co-teacher and I wanted to try it, I read blogs and websites and printed off instructions. We stewed for over a year. We finally hit upon a project that needed the podcasts, I was busy at my desk with a student, turned to two 6th grade girls and said---"Hey, Audacity is loaded on those computers--figure out how to do podcasts". Five minutes later they said "Done, will we need to edit?" I looked at my co-teacher and rolled my eyes! My advice--Let the kids try it.

We used the podcasts to tell the stories of passenger and crew on the Titanic. You can hear them here at Titanic in the Classroom.
For a quick audio only presentation, try out Gabcast (www.gabcast.com). The only tools needed are a telephone and a blog or wiki to post the programs. It's as easy as making a phone message. Once finished, you simply copy the code into the website.
You can see them in action on my Constitution Blog (http://constitutionaelc.blogspot.com). My instructors use them for the difficult questions on the Constitution that they explain over and over again. They are not flashy but they are easy and efficient.
I just did a session with our teachers today on using the free service called GCast which allows you to podcast from any phone. You can read more about it on my blog or on Alan November's blog at http://novemberlearning.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=v...
