High School Student Forum in NY State seeks an international videoconferencing partner

Hello Everyone,

I am a Technology Instructional Specialist in the Hudson Valley of New York State.  Our area was rated #2 in the Lonely Planet top 10 US travel destinations for 2012.http://www.lonelyplanet.com/usa/travel-tips-and-articles/76941

A high school student forum group in Ulster County is seeking a similar group from another country to establish a meaningful dialogue about the issues that they grapple with in their schools and in their communities.

They are looking to connect via videoconferencing (no Skype please, sorry) in April or May of this year.

Looking forward to participating in this group and establishing partnerships with educators around the world!

Hi there,

I am an english teacher from portugal.I am currently looking for an opportunity to develop my students' skills (foreign langage- english), by getting in touch with a foreign group and starting a partnership... do you think we could work together?

Hi Monica!

I would love to talk more about starting a partnership with you.I visited Portugal many years ago. I was mostly in the Algarve area. The Portuguese people were very welcoming.  What ages do you teach?Do you have access to videoconferencing equipment?

Hi Cynthia!

Thank you for your words about the Portuguese people! I ,live in the North, but the Algarve is really great! I usually go there in August (holidays). I teach students between 15 and 18 years old. My class has 27 students. They have been learning English for the last 5 years. A the moment I am involved in a school/faculty project (Masters Degree) which regards the use of social media and social networks to increase and enhance Student's language skills. The school I teach in isn't very well equipped. However, we could use skype, or even email, or another social network... We could trey and find out more about our countries, and maybe get the students to make friends among them!! Do you think our interests and groups match? Do you have any other suggestion?
