B.A.M. Bugs Across the Map! We are seeking classes interested in insects and/or microscopes: We want to Skype with you in May.
You can participate in Q & A about our experiences (below) or we can take turns sharing about insects in our respective states.

Our fourth grade technology classes in South Carolina will collect insects that are native to our region. Students will do a bit of research before they present their important findings about the little creatures on B.A.M. Bugs Across the Map: http://bugsacrossthemap.wikispaces.com/. Students will take pictures with Digital Blue computer microscopes in our lab that will help us see the body parts better (and make inferences about how special parts help insects adapt for survival). Next we will send some critters to college - Beckman Institute's Imaging Technology Group Bugscope at the University of Illinois. Students will view bugs through their scanning electron microscope - 2000x magnification! Students and teachers will participate in an online chat with the experts in three separate sessions the first week of May.

Wow what a great idea. It even make bugs (little mini beasts that they are) sound interesting. Here is a lesson plan I use with my 3rd graders on mini beasts in case you want to use any of the ideas, or links I have collected http://computerkiddoswiki.pbwiki.com/Mini+Bests
Great resource! Thank you for sharing your work- we will definitely use it.
