Thank You Christopher for your response. I definitely have the tools for skyping. What I don't have is another class to skype with. I would love to connect with a class in another country but I am not opposed to another state. I am sure there is much the students can learn from each other within their own country. I was hoping that this discussion would help me network with other teachers and educators that have experience and resources to share in regards to getting started. My goal was to educate and help students become aware of global issues ( i.e. ivory poaching, pollution, poverty) that are not addressed in everyday school curriculum. We will need the future generation to address these issues and be come philanthropist and advocates for these kinds of important issues. The first need to become aware they exist and how they affect the world as a whole.
Kimberly after some research that I was conducting on my own for another class I found a very good solution for you. Skype for the classroom.
With Skype you can Collaborate with other classes no matter where they are as long as they have a computer and internet connection. With Skype you can connect with guest speakers and invite them into your virtual Skype classroom. And lastly like what one school did with Skype was take a virtual field trip in a NASA building.
As far a hardware you will need a big enough display for everyone in the class to see (Big TV or Projector) You will need some good speakers so everyone can hear and finally a good microphone so everyone in the class can communicate.
Here is a link so you can check out a demo for yourself.
Hello Everyone,
In an effort to promote global awareness in my kindergarten class, I would like to connect with other classrooms around the country and world. I am hoping this helps promote 21st century learning in my classroom. I would like my students to be able to think critically, communicate and collaborate using technology. I wanted to know if any of you have experience in this area and if so what are some good resources? Do you have any expert tips?
Hi everyone! I work at a community college in Delaware, Delaware Technical Community College. I really want to start to get into teaching online courses. We have a room dedicated to distance learning which is really cool but it is only for classes that are between our campuses. So I was wondering if anyone could recommend a online collaboration platform that allowed students and a teacher to connect to the same site and have discussions and whiteboards and even a option for webcam to make it personable enough so everyone can see each other. I also was wondering if there was an option that allowed other professional to come into our online classroom and hold a discussion or Q&A session. I also feel that this could help in place of all of the snow days we have been having in Delaware.
Thank you so much for any recommendations and feedback!
Looking for an elementary class to collaborate with outside of the United States.
Larry, are you a K-12 teacher? There is a link to the study on the right. Click there to get more info about participating in my research. Thanks for responding.
Rose, I became a member when I was seeking national technology integration certification. As you can see, on this particular comment wall, there are not regular additions--when I get a notification that someone has commented, I return to it. I am an ITRT and not regularly engaged in Distance Collaborations--but, I did help a couple of foreign language teachers with such a project last semester. So I chose this particular group while engaged in such a project--perhaps I was looking for a teacher in another part of the world to team up with at that point--I found one instead through Epals.
I need EXPERT OPINIONS! What drives you to learn and engage in virtual communities like Classroom 2.0? Find more info here http://bit.ly/1cxfM9K or click on Wanted poster on top right. Your wisdom could change the future of education!
I would highly recommend Julie's Flat Classroom activities. They are well organized and focused.
