The website I have chosen for the global awareness project is www.epals.com. I believe that this website is a great place for students from around the world to connect with other students. ePals creates an educational community where students, school administrators, teachers and parents are provided with safe platform for building educational communities from around the world. This website allows students to collaborate on projects, discussion boards, and the use of safe emailing for the focus on issues of global awareness and culture. I feel that my student would like to work with other students with different cultural backgrounds and they can even form positive professional relationships with most of the other students. I could also see myself creating 3 or more separate projects that the students could work on rather than one. I would have to say that I wouldn’t really know until I tried it the first time; but this project is definitely one that I would like to grow because global awareness is so important for students to understand. I hope my students will gain understanding of how other students their age learn and live. I feel that this website would really showcase other countries education standards and beliefs, which in turn, would be a great eye opener for students in the United States. Even if my students could collaborate with other students on projects from different states in the U.S. would be beneficial because each state offers and requests different Common Core Standards.
My objective for this project is to have students collaborate with other students from different cultural backgrounds to work on a common project while reflecting how their culture and education is the same or different. The students will present their project and virtual classroom to the whole class which will allow all students to see how each project and country worked out.

I was not familiar with epals until I created this assignment. I now love it and was so excited to share with my students. It is a great way to introduce your students to other cultures and have them enjoy learning about them. I too agree that it is a great way to develop relationships and friendships and not only that but seek the benefit of them being different and learning that we are not all the same and don't have to be to be friends.
I too used ePals as my global awareness assignment. I like the idea that you plan to maybe have more then one special projects that your students could work on. I also like your idea that you would want the students to not just connect with another student from a different country but also have them actually collaborate on some kind of other assignment, and have an outcome from that as well. I would be very interested in seeing what they collaborate on and what the differences/similarities they run into while working together.
Thanks for sharing your creativity!
