I chose to use a lesson from an outside site called learningtogive.org. I chose a lesson called, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle because I felt that it could easily be adapted to serve the needs of my first grade learners. In this activity, students learned key vocabulary words and various ideas about saving the Earth. After watching a Brain Pop video, learning about the Earth's Natural Resources, and playing a cool recycling game, the students voted on a way to help save the Earth. They voted on recycling and we set up classroom bins to recycle plastic and paper. This lesson is considered Global Awareness because our Earth's natural resources are running scarce all over the the globe. The lesson includes interacting with another classroom from the UK who is recycling paper by sending photos of what we have been doing in the classroom regarding recycling. This was incorporated into the classroom as we took our own photos to share internationally and were able to view others with the projector that were emailed to us.

Nicole-That's great to hear you're getting your first graders involved in saving the planet. I like how you incorporate the technology aspect of the assignment. Are there activities you've seen before that other countries do as far as recycling? Bet your little guys and gals would have a blast!
Nicole, the website you chose sounds really interesting. I will have to check it out. I do a huge ecology unit with my kindergarteners, and this sounds like a site that would fit in very well. I agree that learning about natural resources is an extremely important part of global awareness. I think that the younger we can get kids thinking about this, the better.
