The activity my students participated in is on ePals where a class in Brazil was seeking partners for an email exchange Project. The Brazilian class wanted to learn more about other cultures and everyday life of students. Their primary focus was to communicate through email.
In order for my students to have structure to this lesson, they were required to send an email to a partner in Brazil that they were assigned to. The email had to have all necessary components: email address, subject line, cc the teacher, a descriptive body of text, a signature, and three attached digital photos. The digital photos were to be taken at our school and had to include a picture of one enterprise area in our school, a product that area produced, and a picture of themselves.
Once the students received a response, they were also to respond to the email.
This lesson has a global awareness component as the class will be exposed to students in another country and have the opportunity to see how those students live in that culture. The class in Brazil also wants to share their daily lives.
In our classroom, email is very important. We communicate with our customers by email most often and send photos or attachments of our work. This lesson is a way for our class to prepare themselves to efficiently communicate with our customers via email. Not all of our students have an email account and one will be created for them.
