Does anyone have some ideas on projects either online or classroom based that would help 1st grade students learn more about the math they encournter everyday in the real world? I want them to see how number sense is important and that math is all around them. I have looked online for some kind of collaborative project but everyhting seems to be out dated.

I teach third grade special education students in Westchester County, New York. We are in the process of switching to Investigations, but I've been "spared." Those who piloted the program appear to being doing okay with it, but I'd like to get a better idea of what's involved in the program. I enjoy teaching math and am spending the first few days of the new year getting a feel for my student's number sense. I'm glad to be a part of this community and hope to contribute my experiences and try out new activities too.

I teach in North Kansas City School District, and we use the Math Investigations resources here. I was wondering if any other members use that, and if so, any good tips you have. I taught 3rd for two years, and this is my first year in 2nd. I have an idea on where they should be when they leave me, but am getting used to how much of a beginner they are starting off. Any ideas or activites you use that work, I would love to know!

Hey all, I just joined up and I am glad to be here! I teach 4th grade this year (just graduated after 5 years of third grade!!) and I am always looking for ideas to support my instruction and development across all curricular areas. Plus, I can make some darned-good coffee!!

I teach 1st grade at a very large K-2 school. I am a member of our math committee which has been working on bringing math to the fore front of our schools focus. We started implementing the Singapore math strategies this past year and have seen major improvements in our student’s mathematical abilities. Is there an online assessment that we could use that would help teachers easily determine the areas in which each child may need interventions?
