Okay, so, I'm WAY over my head right now with my "to do" list! One of the most pressing things on that list is the creation of a new shared reading book unit. The focus and title of this unit is "Reflective Readers." The title of the book I'm using this year is The Sisters Grimm: The Fairy Tale Detectives.  I've done this unit before (the "Reflective Reading" unit), but needed to switch to another text more suited to this year's class.

What I'm wondering is that now that we have a larger group, if anyone would like to do some unit sharing? If so, let's get started!

I need anything and everything you have on that Sisters Grimm title.

I'm willing to share SEVERAL units, a couple of my favorites to begin, Artemis Fowl for older readers, and an author study on Kevin Henkes (author of Chrysanthemum and Lily's Purple Plastic Purse) for primary readers (I taught 2nd grade for 12 years).

I'm starting http://bookunits.wikispaces.com (UPDATE: NEW URL: http://bookunits.shutterfly.com) as a place to easily share such units, unless someone knows of such an existing site. If so, PLEASE share!

I think this is a terrific idea!!! I am teaching grade two for the first time and I am having a really hard time figuring out what to teach in reading and how to asses it! I would love ideas, suggestions and advice!!!! I can share other stuff I have done but i'm not sure how good it would be or how useful to you since I am new in the grade. Most of the neat stuff I did in the junior grades was in writing and not in reading. Well, I kind of combined the two--they were never ever separate and that made awesome units but I can't seem to figure out how to do that for Grade two. Sigh. E
This is neither here nor there but our school is using the William and Mary Literature Navigators for high ability and gifted readers. They have some great questions and high level projects. Scroll to bottom of list to see titles. http://cfge.wm.edu/curr_language.htm

I've also put together a reading list for very young very precocious readers, K-2 reading 4-5 years above peers. Let me know if you want a copy. N
Thanks so much, Nancy! Would LOVE a copy of your reading list. You can post it yourself or email it to me and I'll post it for you. I'll also post a link to that website. I looked it over and wish our T&G program would dive into literature like this!

Thanks again!

Okay, so I'm not real impressed with the ease of using a wiki, nor the mandatory advertising. So instead, I'm closing that site and using good 'ole Shutterfly. Love their share sites--easy to use and they LOOK great with very MINIMAL advertising. So, check out http://bookunits.shutterfly.com and become a member! I'll be formating the pages THIS evening and it will be ready for members to upload tomorrow. Please consider joining! I'd love to see this take off! As one of my favorite educators (Angela Maiers) says, "Together we are smarter!"
