Hi, I am Tracy and I am an elementary school teacher in Taiwan. Some of my students' English proficiency is good enough to communicate with others, and I want to encourage them to take a part in an on-line E-Tandem Learning community. The problem is that most parents take a negative attitude toward Internet using. Is there anything I can do to change their mind? Thanks!

Hi Tracy, I am Mary from Singapore. I suppose the parents' attitude is negative towards the internet because of the prevalent use of it, in undesirable ways other than for educational or upgrading purposes, by most youngsters. Educating the parents, in the installation of softwares, which would help them to monitor their children's usage and to block the undesirable sites, would help, if you have not tried it already. There is a programme called junglebyte, which enables the parent to view on his / her screen, what the child is doing on the child's screen. If the parent is not so IT savy, I would suggest installing a good anti virus programme which would block off the undesirable sites. I hope this is of help to you.
