Since elementary teachers have special circumstances to deal with concerning the use of technology, I thought we could meet here to talk and to share ideas for 2.0 integration.
No problem at all, Ellen! I think if we all had to stop and mention names of posters when we're trying to pass information along, the cyber waves would clog. I sometimes wonder if we wouldn't be better off all belonging to the one ning. One Ning to rule them all, one ring to ... bind them?
You are very welcome, Susan... I had already passed on your PBS kids link to a member of EFL Classroom! :D (and I didn't even mention your name... sorry!)
I THINK a smart board is the same as an interactive white board. Apologies if not. These IWB sites are from my bookmarks. Sheppard Software gets good reports. Woodlands has a page of links. PBS Kids is brilliant - the link is to their IWB page.
Lori, My kids love playing games on the Net, and basically any interactive learning game can be made that much more interesting using the touch technology of a SMART board. You just have to play with them, or rather let the kids play with them. I'm sure others will have something more specific to recommend, but the way I see it, the sky is pretty much the limit! Have fun!
Safiyyah,
I LOVE WebWise Kids! I use it with all of my 6th graders. It's a game that takes them through the process of finding a kid who "met" a guy online and was kidnapped. When they realize what was really happening, they're horrified. It takes them forever to figure it out. I think the website is webwisekids.org. The "Missing" disks were free to me because I went to a workshop on it. I don't know what they're offering now, but I'd definitely try it.
Safiyyah, I have been sharing clips from an Internet Safety video I found on Discovery Streaming with my 5th graders. It is actually a grade 6-8 video, but it's okay for 5th grade as well. Also, I know www.netsmartz.org has lots of Internet Safety material. The kids site is good for Elem, but I know the Teens site has things on social networking. I don't use any social networks for the kids though, so I can't offer advice there. Good luck!
I'm in the process of preparing a presentation for our school's girls day event next week. This years theme is technology. I wanted to present something on social networking. Does anyone have any ideas about presenting cyberbullying and internet safety on social networks? Also, if anyone has any suggestions on social networks for students they have used please share. Thanks for your time and responses.
I know BrainPop has a clip on cyberbulling but I wanted to know if there was anything else exciting out there.
I am an MSET graduate student at Keller University, a subdivision of DeVry University. I am going for my second Master's level degree because my first on in Educational Computing is quite outdated and did mot prepare me well for the realm of elementary education's future needs. The, attitudes, needs, and perceptions of the realm of educational technology have evolved greatly since then. I thank the site administrator for allowing me to see what Web 2.0 can do for me as an ET instructor.
