Since elementary teachers have special circumstances to deal with concerning the use of technology, I thought we could meet here to talk and to share ideas for 2.0 integration.

I am excited to join this group. I have been using Web 2.0 technology for the last two years at Balboa Magnet Gifted/High Ability Elementary school quite successfully. Our students are using Google Apps and have accounts for all 3rd through 5th grade students. Student projects are listed on our school website at: http://www.balboamagnet.com/projects.
For the past couple of weeks now I have been working on a project that looks at technology in the classroom and how students with special needs can benefit from it. I am very curious to see how people are using technology such as the SmartBoard to help students with needs. Can any body give me some ideas on how technology is being used for special education?
Alline, yours is an amazing resource, thanks for the bank of contacts, so helpful. I will be sharing with my Year 3 colleagues at Clearwater Bay school Hong Kong.

I created a free website for a colleague of mine to use in a "pen pal" program. It was between a Mexican and an Austrian middle school. We set up video and photo galleries, and a discussion forum where the kids could chat back and forth online. The access to all these were through password verification and privacy settings. We had meetings with parents to assure them that their kids privacy was well protected.
It was wonderful! The Austrians would practice their Spanish and learn about Mexico, while my Mexican students practiced their German and learned about the Austrian culture. And when their vocabulary failed, they all turned to English!
It was also easy for the teachers to manage since they would get emails every time someone posted, so they could immediately check to make sure their messages were appropriate.
Our school paid for the service to get rid of the advertising and have better control over the published content.

My 6th graders will be learning about China this year (they must prepare for their Model UN debate in March), how about we do some work together?

Hi, I am Tracy and I am an elementary school teacher in Taiwan. Some of my students' English proficiency is good enough to communicate with others, and I want to encourage them to take a part in an on-line E-Tandem Learning community. The problem is that most parents hold a negative attitude toward Internet using, is there anything I can do to persuade them to change their mind? Thanks!
Hi, I have decided to use twitter to demonstrate an online communication tool to the early years teachers in my workshop. Wanted some feedback on how other elementary teachers are using twitter. What have you tried in the classroom, trials, tribulations, etc. ? Thanks in advance for your comments.

A Classroom 2.0 Workshop is being planned for March in Louisville, Kentucky! It's a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Web 2.0 technology and how to use it, and it's FREE! If you are interested in attending, please let me know!

Hi! I just now joined this group! I'm not teaching in a school, but am starting my own online tutoring business called Tutoring by Deb. I'm also planning to create a homework wiki, where students from elementary grades to high school can get real help with homework. Giving the answer will not be allowed, so it will be real help, not a way for students to get answers and slide. It's somewhat involved, though, so it might be a while before it's ready for participants.
I'm not here to advertise, though. I'm here because I believe I can be a valuable contributor and learn from you, too! I certainly can contribute from a unique perspective. Since I will be using individualized lessons and looking for educational software to use for a hands-on type of learning, I hope to have a lot to share!
